India reported 19,893 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours, a huge increase from the previous day’s tally of 17,135, the Union health ministry said on Thursday.

During the same period, the country reported 53 more deaths, bringing the national death toll from Covid to 5,26,530.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases decreased slightly to 1,36,478 cases, accounting for 0.31 percent of the country’s total number of positive cases.

The recovery of 20,419 patients in the past 24 hours brought the cumulative total to 4,34,24,029. Hence, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.50%.

Meanwhile, India’s daily positivity rate has increased slightly to 4.94%, while the weekly positivity rate currently also stands at 4.64%.

Also during the same period, a total of 4,03,006 tests were carried out across the country, bringing the total to over 87.67 crores.

As of Thursday morning, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage topped 205.22 crores, achieved through 2,72,07,336 sessions

More than 3.92 million adolescents have received a first dose of Covid-19 since the start of the vaccination campaign for this age group.
