MOROCCO, June 2 – The Ministry of Health and Social Protection is fully involved in the proper implementation of the Territorial Protocol for the care of women and girls who are victims of violence, the Minister of Health and of Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb.

In a speech read on his behalf during a coordination meeting for the follow-up of the implementation of the Territorial Protocol for the care of women victims of violence organized over two days by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Ait Taleb indicated that the Ministry was involved very early in the fight against violence as well as in the care of victims, knowing that it represents a public health problem.

In this regard, the Minister mentioned the achievements in this area, such as the strengthening of the institutional framework and the harmonization of standards and scientific and technical systems for the care of women and girls who are victims of violence.

He further noted that Morocco has been able to improve indicators relating to the number of cases of women and girl victims of violence treated by hospitals at the national level.

The number of women cared for by integrated units within hospitals has increased sharply from 8,355 cases in 2012 to 22,991 in 2020 and 24,444 in 2021, he underlined.

For her part, the representative of UN Women in Morocco, Leila Rhiwi, said that the institutionalization of coordination at all levels of governance is a guarantee of efficiency, stressing that an effective response to the needs of women requires a coordinated and institutional intervention.

A coordinated response contributes to the protection of victims, she said, pointing out that the exchange of information between responsible sectors leads to a reduction in the number of times victims are asked to tell their stories; an approach that she says alleviates their suffering and avoids their exposure to trauma.

The participants in this meeting, marked by the presence of judicial officers, representatives of the departments and organizations concerned and of civil society, exchanged on the means of improving judicial investigations and their relevance in relation to the specificity of the crimes. of violence against women, to improve the access of women victims to security and legal services and the simplification of procedures, as well as the strengthening of the role of the various actors in the implementation of the protection of victims.
