He is back! Local guitarist and Upper West Side Phish, Trey Anastasio, will be performing two solo shows at the Beacon Theater next month, June 22 and 23. The concerts will mark the first full-capacity indoor shows in Manhattan since the start of the pandemic. The event is billed as “Two Evenings with Trey Anastasio”.
Just seven months ago, in October 2020, Anastasio completed an 8-week residency at the Beacon. In the heat of the Covid-19 pandemic, Trey and his group performed with no one in the audience, a sight rarely seen during the pandemic with tight gathering restrictions. The broadcasts were streamed around the world using the Twitch app, with audiences communicating with and with Trey in the chat component of the app.
The shows raised over $ 1 million for Phish’s longtime nonprofit, the Waterwheel Foundation, and its new Sky Split Fund, whose original goal was to build an addiction treatment center in Vermont. Since the shows took place, Anastasio, who has now been sober for 14 years, has announced the purchase of a facility in Ludlow, Vt, which will be transformed into a drug use disorder treatment center. non-profit (SUD) substances.
“Trey was the only artist to perform live at The Beacon during the pandemic, so we are honored that he is the first artist returning to our stage to perform to a full house,” said James Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of MSG. Entertainment, in a press release. “There is no doubt that people are eager to start coming together to experience the events they love again – and are more than willing to get vaccinated to do so. We’re focused on opening all of our venues not only to usher in the return of live entertainment, but New York City as well. “
What’s interesting to note is that guests at these shows will need to be fully immunized, meaning the event must take place at least 14 days after your second dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or at least 14 days after your single dose. of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. The only exception is children under 16, who can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 antigen test, negative COVID-19 PCR test or full vaccination and are accompanied by a vaccinated adult. .
